Advancing AI Literacy: hessian.AI Concludes Collaborative Project on Article 4 Requirements
hessian.AI is pleased to share that our joint project hessian.AI.literacy has successfully reached its conclusion. The initiative set out to address a question that is gaining urgency across Europe:
What does Article 4 of the EU AI Act concretely require in terms of AI literacy—and how can organizations implement these expectations in a structured, reliable way?
To answer this, we worked closely with the Research Lab for Digital Innovation and Transformation, the Research Lab for Law and Applied Technologies, Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences, and TU Darmstadt. This interdisciplinary collaboration allowed us to bridge legal interpretation, organizational practice, and technological understanding to build a holistic perspective on AI literacy.
The project outcomes provide:
- a legal interpretation of Article 4 AI literacy obligations,
- clarity on required competencies and organizational capabilities, and
- practical guidance for embedding AI literacy into corporate processes, governance, and training structures.
These insights have been consolidated in a newly released project brochure.
For readers seeking deeper analysis, the project team has also produced two whitepapers that extend the discussion and offer additional conceptual and operational detail:

We invite all organizations preparing for the EU AI Act to review the findings—
and to use this work as a foundation for building sustainable, responsible AI literacy across their teams.
