Introduce yourselves

Tell us in three sentences who you are

We develop digital assistants for emergency departments to support doctors in their decision-making processes. Our AI combines knowledge from thousands of patient cases with medical guidelines. With the help of dianovi, doctors can not only improve medical quality, but also increase the economic efficiency of the emergency department through billing advice.

What challenge does your startup address and how did the idea for it come about?

There are several doctors in Nils’ family who told us about the challenges they face in the emergency department. In addition, our founding team had already spent several years researching artificial intelligence in medicine at TU Darmstadt. In the beginning, we mainly had to deal with regulatory hurdles, but we were able to overcome them successfully – thanks to our ISO 13485 certification, among other things.

How can I imagine the use of your products in the everyday work of medical staff?

dianoviQM is our first product. It checks every patient file from the emergency department for deviations from official medical guidelines and shows potential for optimisation in the documentation in order to exploit the full billing potential. This tool is primarily used for quality assurance.

Can you briefly explain how dianoviCDS operates and to what extent AI supports this solution?

dianoviCDS is a medical device that supports the treating physician in choosing the correct diagnosis and next treatment steps based on the patient’s symptoms. Our AI combines language models with classic machine learning and has been trained with both medical guidelines and anonymised patient data. This allows us to calculate patient-specific recommendations with high precision.

What makes dianovi unique or different from others on the market?

We work closely with existing software systems in the emergency department and ensure seamless integration. Our software is specifically tailored to the workflows in the emergency department. Our greatest unique selling point is our specially trained AI models, which are exceptionally accurate.

Let’s take a look into the future: Where could the project be in five years’ time?

In five years, we want to be the market leader in the field of decision support systems for emergency departments. In addition, we want to address the outpatient market, where similar challenges exist, and drive our international expansion.

AI StartUp Rising helped us to refine our business model, especially at the beginning with mentoring. We also benefit enormously from their network. Thanks to supercomputer #42, we were able to train our AI models on a powerful infrastructure.
