mixNmatch is a Frankfurt-based fashion tech startup that has developed an AI-powered fashion search solution to revolutionise the way fashion is discovered online. Our technology understands natural language and visual search queries and translates them into matching product suggestions and complete outfits – be it through free text searches such as ‘business casual for a startup meeting’ or through an uploaded image as a source of inspiration. We have been working on this solution since 2024 and have now launched our B2C web platform (www.mixNmatch.app), where users can try out the free text and image search in looks with over 300,000 products from more than 900 brands.
At the heart of our solution is a four-stage AI system that not only recognises fashion, but also understands it. It combines conversational AI for natural language search, computer vision for image analysis, intelligent product enrichment that semantically analyses fashion items, and advanced vector-based search technology that enables intuitive product recommendations.
The biggest challenge was to develop an AI that not only recognises individual products, but also looks at fashion in context – like a personal stylist who puts together matching outfits instead of just suggesting isolated items. This is exactly what we have already implemented: our AI can not only find products based on images and text, but also generate complete outfits that harmonise in terms of style and function.
Following the successful launch of our B2C platform, we are now focussing on implementing B2B pilot projects with leading e-commerce platforms, retailers and D2C brands. The aim is to integrate our API-based search solution directly into existing online shops and thus establish AI-supported product search as the new industry standard.
Our technology changes the entire search experience: from the classic text and image search bar to intelligent product recommendations on product and checkout pages. In addition, our AI-supported modules can enable personalised email marketing campaigns and even digital personal styling advice for brick-and-mortar retailers.
In parallel, we are preparing our pre-seed financing round to further expand our AI team and optimise our solution with additional features. Our goal is to establish mixNmatch as the leading search and recommendation technology for the fashion industry and to provide fashion retailers with an intuitive, inspiring and highly relevant shopping experience.
Sustainability is not a trend for us, but a central part of our mission. Our goal is to drastically reduce mispurchases and returns, as these represent one of the biggest environmental challenges in online retail. Thanks to precise, AI-supported product recommendations and our outfit suggestions that show garments in combination, we help our users to make more conscious purchasing decisions and shop more sustainably.
We also offer greater visibility to sustainable platforms such as Avocadostore and local brands such as GREEN KNIT, Limo and CONSCI. In future, we plan to expand our range to include second-hand and rental models in order to further promote sustainable alternatives. We are always open to collaborations and pilot projects in order to jointly promote sustainable solutions for the fashion industry.
Our AI is dynamic and self-learning – it analyses social media trends, user behaviour and market innovations on a daily basis to adapt fashion recommendations in real time. This not only keeps us up to date, but also gives our users a tailored, personalised trend experience that shows them exactly the styles that suit their individual tastes.
At the same time, one important point must be emphasised: The fashion industry itself is often slow to adapt new innovations in terms of technology. But the way people discover fashion today is changing rapidly. Revolutionary product discovery is no longer a ‘nice-to-have’, but a critical success factor that determines which fashion players are able to offer the shopping experience that consumers expect: simple, intuitive and personalised.
With our API-first white label solution, we support fashion retailers, e-commerce platforms and brands in exactly this transformation – by providing them with powerful, AI-powered product search and styling technology that helps them stay ahead of the digital future of the fashion industry.
In five years, we see mixNmatch as the European market leader for AI-supported fashion search. Our technology will help fashion retailers in Europe to prepare for the new requirements of digital retail and provide their customers with an intuitive, personalised product search. Our API will be integrated into leading e-commerce platforms, setting the standard for user-friendly, efficient and inspiring online fashion search.
The support from AI Startup Rising and Hessian.AI was a crucial step in our development. The programme enabled us to finalise our MVP, gain access to leading AI experts and coaches and prepare for market entry.
