Veli

Introduce yourselves

Tell us in three sentences who you are

Veli is an AI-based safety solution for assisted living and senior housing that uses existing electricity and water data to detect unusual situations at an early stage. The solution works completely passively, without additional sensors or active interaction from residents. Veli was founded in 2023.

What challenge does your startup address and how did the idea for it come about?

The idea arose from the question of how to increase safety in old age without restricting independence or privacy. The biggest challenge was developing reliable and explainable AI models from existing infrastructure data. At the same time, high standards for data protection and user acceptance had to be met.

How does Veli work and how does AI support this project?

Veli continuously analyzes patterns in electricity and water consumption for individual apartments. AI detects deviations from each resident’s normal behavior and reports relevant anomalies to caregivers or emergency call centers. The AI learns adaptively and is tailored to each property.

Who are the founders and the team behind Veli? What motivates you?

Veli was founded by Jan-Peter Seevers, Max Schnettler, and Tim Weiß, and is further developed by an interdisciplinary team of AI, energy data, healthcare, and real estate experts. We are motivated by combining technological innovation with societal impact, aiming to increase safety while preserving maximum independence.

What sets Veli apart from other digital care assistants or care apps?

Veli is not an app for residents but an invisible background solution. It requires no wearables, cameras, or active use. This makes Veli especially suitable for older people who do not want or are unable to use technology.

Can you give an example of how Veli has eased the daily life of a family member or caregiver?

In several facilities, unusual inactivity patterns were detected early, before conventional emergency systems were triggered. Caregivers could check on residents proactively and respond in time, relieving both family members and staff.

How easy is it for people without technical knowledge to use the Veli app?

The app is designed for professional staff and is intentionally very straightforward. Alerts, history, and context are clearly structured and easy to use without technical knowledge. Residents themselves do not need to operate anything.

What measures do you take to make the app accessible and user-friendly for all age groups?

Since Veli operates passively, there are no barriers for older residents. For professional staff, we focus on clear visualization, simple language, and minimal interaction. Accessibility is an integral part of our product design.

What new features or developments are planned for the future? Where could the project be in five years?

We are currently developing Veli toward even stronger integration with emergency call and control center systems as well as building technology. In five years, we envision Veli as a standard safety layer in assisted living. The goal is a Europe-wide scalable safety solution for age-appropriate housing.

AI Startup Rising has been instrumental in helping us strategically advance our AI product and connect early with relevant experts and partners. The mentoring on AI architecture, scaling, and positioning was particularly valuable. The program has noticeably accelerated Veli.
