AISR Startup Alumni Veli Secures €800,000 Investment to Advance AI-Powered Senior Home Care
Veli has set itself the goal of enabling everyone to live as long and carefree a life as possible in their own home. To this end, the start-up from Kassel and Munich has developed an artificial intelligence system that uses a household’s electricity and water consumption to detect emergency situations and organize automatic assistance.
Veli successfully participated in the Incubator: IGNITION and Accelerator: RISING startup funding programs from hessian.AI | AI Startup Rising in 2023. The team has now completed a financing round and secured €800,000 from BMH Beteiligungs-Managementgesellschaft Hessen mbH and renowned business angels.
Innovative solution for a growing target group
In Germany, 6 million older people already live alone and are dependent on external support in an emergency. Previous emergency call solutions often only offer limited protection, as they have to be worn continuously or require additional sensors in the living room. Founder Tim Weiß has experienced in his own family how crucial a reliable solution is: “When my grandmother fell once, she wasn’t wearing her emergency call button. As a result, she was unable to raise the alarm herself and was found too late.”
This is where Veli comes in and has developed an AI-supported solution that turns the household itself into a protector. The cloud-based technology analyzes the data from existing electricity meters and water meters in the household and learns the typical daily routine. As soon as Veli detects emergencies or a need for support due to deviations in the daily routine, relatives, care staff or emergency call centers are notified. Thanks to the smart meter rollout and the digital water meters that have already become standard, the necessary technology is already available in every household, meaning that Veli does not require any additional sensors in the home or adjustments to everyday life.
Founding team with expertise in AI and energy data
Veli was founded in 2023 by Dr. Jan-Peter Seevers, Maximilian Schnettler and Tim Weiß from the University of Kassel. The three founders are now using their many years of expertise in energy data analysis and the development of innovative AI solutions to improve the care situation. The company successfully launched its smart home emergency call solution on the market last year and is cooperating with partners such as the German Red Cross to seamlessly integrate its technology into existing care processes.
Financing round enables growth and further development
Thanks to the new financing, the team can be expanded and the expansion in the area of service and assisted living can be further developed. In addition to BMH, experienced business angels from the care and measurement infrastructure sectors, among others, have invested in the start-up. Investors such as Martina Pfeifer, Olav Sehlbach and Matthias Sandrock contribute valuable expertise to strategically support Veli’s growth.
“The investment enables us to place Veli in even more facilities and expand our product portfolio so that care staff and relatives are noticeably relieved,” explains Dr. Jan-Peter Seevers, CEO and Managing Director of Veli GmbH. “We are also strengthening our partnerships in the real estate industry and the smart meter sector to make Veli the standard for home security.”
