AI in the office – high tech with sensitive social data?

January 31, 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm CET

Public administration in Germany is increasingly using algorithmic decision-making systems based on artificial intelligence (AI). However, the great potential of AI associated with administration is also accompanied by potential risks, especially in the area of social security authorities, for example in employment agencies or pension insurance. Mareike Sirman-Winkler will illustrate this in her presentation on the basis of empirical case studies. The introduction of AI in the welfare state is not trivial; there are a number of sector-specific challenges. For example, what role does user acceptance play in the introduction of such systems? Finally, Mareike will discuss the latest developments and the questions that generative AI (such as ChatGPT) poses for public administration.

About the person

Mareike researches artificial intelligence from a social science perspective. Her research focuses on the normative conflicts, organisational challenges and behavioural consequences of AI-based innovations in social administration. She is a political scientist and is doing her doctorate at the University of Oldenburg.
