hessian.AI at re:publica 25: Artificial Intelligence in Dialogue with Society

The re:publica 25, held from May 26 to 28, 2025, at STATION Berlin, once again provided an outstanding platform for discussing digital topics and their societal impacts. Under the motto “Generation XYZ,” experts, innovators, and enthusiasts gathered to explore the opportunities and challenges of digitalization. This year, hessian.AI was present to showcase the latest developments in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) through our AI Service Center, aiming to actively shape the dialogue around AI in Europe.

Engaging Talks from Our Experts

A highlight of the conference was the talks given by our hessian.AI experts, who provided valuable insights into current research and application areas:

              •            Ben Lohmann delivered a presentation titled “Serving society by providing AI resources for your research,” discussing the challenges of accessing computing power for AI research. He introduced the AI Service Center located in Darmstadt, which offers low-barrier access to resources for AI development with a state-of-the-art compute cluster and comprehensive support. The goal is to empower researchers to make a positive contribution to society through their work.

              •            Kajol Raju presented on “Multilingual AI and RAG: Scaling Language Understanding Through Retrieval,” emphasizing the importance of multilingual large language models for digital sovereignty and linguistic inclusion in Europe. She explained how hessian.AI and the AI Service Center are working with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) to develop AI applications that are context-aware, adaptable across languages, and aligned with Europe’s cultural and regulatory requirements.

Interactive Experiences and Notable Visits at Our Booth

At the joint booth of the federally funded AI Service Centers, which includes hessian.AI, WestAI, KISSKI, and the AI Service Center Berlin-Brandenburg, visitors were able to experience interactive AI demos. Whether as an exam assistant, through AI voice cloning, or by visualizing AI decisions, the applications showcased how AI can be effectively utilized in practice. Our hessian.AI experts, including Christopher Tauchmann, Ben Lohmann, Kajol Raju, and Michael Marquardt, were available for discussions and exchanged ideas with attendees.

A significant highlight was the visit from the new Federal Digital Minister, Dr. Karsten Wildberger, who took time for a brief exchange. His interest in developments in the field of Artificial Intelligence and the federal support for the work of AI Service Centers highlighted the importance of these technologies for Germany’s digital future.
