hessian.AI Member Prof. Grace Li Zhang Awarded ERC Starting Grant

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Grace Li Zhang, head of the Hardware for Artificial Intelligence research group at TU Darmstadt and member of hessian.AI, has been awarded a prestigious ERC Starting Grant. Her project “LogiNet” will receive funding of around 1.5 million euros over the next five years.

With “LogiNet,” Zhang is pursuing a novel approach to make deep neural networks (DNN) more energy-efficient and transparent. DNNs are the core algorithms behind many AI applications, from image recognition to language translation, but they currently require enormous computing power and energy. The project aims to lay the foundation for “Green AI” while also improving the explainability and trustworthiness of AI systems. This research contributes both to sustainability and to the reliability of artificial intelligence.
